Troubleshooting

Limitations

Compound words such as “little ones” may require 2 rules to handle pluralisation.

With the exception of of case sensitivity rules, rules where the triggering term appears within the alternative will not work as intended (e.g. instead of “BBC” use “the BBC” will not work because the problem term still exists in the suggested correction). In these cases, writing the correct term will still trigger a warning (search for “recursion” for more info).

Compatibility

The Grammarly browser plugin has been known to cause issues on templates with rich text fields. It can block the Tone of Voice assistant from evaluating the content of the field, meaning no warnings are shown.

Design Toolbar

The Design Toolbar will show warning icons if a tab group has a tone of voice warning, similar to validation warnings. If a tab group has both amber and red warnings that apply, the red warning icon will take precedence.

Uploading CSV Files

The CSV file downloads and uploads are compatible with older and newer versions of the assistant.

To take advantage of this, it is best to retain the first row (the header row).
In order to upload a new set of expressions and populate a dictionary, download an existing dictionary, modify the CSV file rows (replace the old data with new data and keep the first header row) and finally upload the modified CSV file to an existing or newly created dictionary tab.

Example:
If an old CSV file is uploaded and doesn’t contain the Tip information, the newer version of Tone of Voice extentension makes the dictionary table fully populated with the uploaded data, though the Tip column remains empty.

The presence of the CSV file column headers matters, the order of the columns doesn’t.
